Centre for Advanced Research and Studies Sponsored
“Cloud Based Applications”
26-27, December 2016
We had organized a GNU-CARs sponsored 2 days workshop on Cloud Based Applications on 26-27 December, 2016.
Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model promotes availability and is composed of five essential characteristics (On-demand self-service, Broad network access, Resource pooling, Rapid elasticity, Measured Service); three service models (Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS), Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS), Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)); and, four deployment models (Private cloud, Community cloud, Public cloud, Hybrid cloud). Key enabling technologies include: (1) fast wide-area networks, (2) powerful, inexpensive server computers, and (3) high-performance virtualization for commodity hardware.
We organized this workshop for understanding of cloud computing and its applications are using private and public cloud servers. The objectives of this workshop were to demonstrate the installation of private cloud environment and using of public cloud of any commercial public cloud service provider.
We invited the applications from academicians from field of Computer Engineering/ Information Technology / Computer Applications, Research Scholars and IT industry persons.
Content of workshop was as following:
· Service oriented computing and web service development
· Cloud computing fundamentals
· Private cloud environment
· Private Cloud setup using Eucalyptus
· Public cloud environment
· Server instance of public cloud
· Application Development/Deployment using public cloud
· Compute and Data services of Public cloud
This workshop was organized during 26-27, December 2016 at Institute Computer Technology, GNU-IIC. We formed organizing committee of our faculties to manage this workshop. Applications were invited through Google form and spreading the e-brochure through an email.
We received 26 applications from various institutes and research scholars. We confirmed their attendance on 22.12.2016.
Resource persons were invited from Industry and Doctorate professors from academic institutions.
For Day1,Dr.Harshad Prajapati , Associate Professor, DDIT, Nadiad was invited for web service development and Cloud Computing fundamentals. Dr.Vipul Dabhi, Associate Professor, DDIT, Nadiad was invited for private cloud environment setup.
For Day2, Mr.Manohar Sharma, Director of AlmaShines Technologies pvt LTD was invited for exploring public cloud environment using Amazon Web Service (AWS).
The participant’s feedback was collected at end of workshop. We received the good feedback and participants suggested to organize this types of workshop for 5 days in future.
The certificates were distributed to all attendees in valedictory function of the workshop.
